This was particularly ineffective marketing because, just on a technical level, the movie did not look as good as the first one. On the "what not to do" side of things, you've got Jurassic World - its trailer seemed desperate to remind you of the first Jurassic Park film, desperate to make you feel like this was the same movie only BETTER. Is it even a little bit surprising that only one of those films wasn't a huge disappointment?

Since 2006, we’ve had Rocky Balboa, Superman Returns, Live Free and Die Hard, Rambo, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Wall Street: The Search for Gordon Gekko’s Gold, and Tron: Legacy. While decades-late sequels are not a new concept - Psycho II did it in 1983, and did it really well - they seem to be happening with more and more frequency in the past decade. Chalk it up to the deteriorating skills of the aging creators or the greedy, artless minds of studio execs, but good, late sequels are a rare thing indeed. Unfortunately, the final product rarely matches the quality of the preceding film, let alone surpasses it, and that’s especially true when the sequel is one, two, three decades late. After all, how hard could it be to make one? Just take all the wonderful stuff from the first film and put it in the second, only do it in a completely different and exciting way so it’s not a total rehash. It’s easy to imagine the best possible outcome for a filmic followup when it doesn’t exist.

During a recent interview with Esquire magazine, Hardy said he was thrilled to be part of “Fury Road” because it was a Furiosa movie anyway. The decision means fans will have to wait for Tom Hardy to reprise Max Rockatansky in a proper “Fury Road” sequel, but it sounds like Hardy is more than fine waiting. George Miller is keeping the “ Mad Max” franchise alive with his upcoming “Fury Road” prequel movie centered on Furiosa.
